Artist Biography

Jonathan Watkins is a contemporary British painter based in Cornwall. He graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Wolverhampton School of Art and Design in 1997.

Over the past 27 years, Jonathan has worked as a freelance fine artist, caricaturist, and cartoonist for a local newspaper, alongside producing graphic art and logos for businesses and charities. His work spans a wide range of disciplines, including mural commissions, book illustration, and comic strips for a surf magazine.

Career Highlights

Jonathan’s varied artistic career includes seven years as Chief Board Artist at a surfboard factory in Newquay and four years as Artist in Residence at a gallery in Padstow, where he painted local scenes and undertook portrait commissions.

He currently paints decorative tiles at a studio in St Kew and has developed a distinctive Cornish Harbour Collection inspired by traditional Delftware.
